The new clinic, opened April 6, offers expedited, multidisciplinary care for diagnosing and treating brain and spinal cord tumors.

“The expertise of our medical team and rich resources, make our clinic one of the most comprehensive and experienced in Michigan,” says Daniel Pieper, M.D., director of Neuro-Oncology, Beaumont, Royal Oak and the clinic’s medical director. “Beaumont Hospitals’ is a National Cancer Institute-designated Community Clinical Oncology Program. Our specialists use state-of-the-art neuro imaging techniques, such as positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Our Gamma Knife® radiosurgery program for brain tumors is one of the nation’s largest, and we offer advanced spinal radiosurgery treatments.”

The clinic’s team of specialists includes: neuroradiologists; neuropathologists; neuro-oncologists; neurosurgeons; doctors of physical medicine and rehabilitation; social workers; psychologists; nurses; dietitians; and integrative medicine specialists. They come together to evaluate a patient’s condition and recommend the best medical or surgical treatment option in one visit. A nurse navigator guides each patient and their family through the treatment process.

Dr. Pieper wants area physicians to use the clinic as a referral center working with local oncologists, “Our aim is to enhance their practices too. We can draw from the collective expertise of our Neuroscience department, Beaumont Cancer Institute, Beaumont Oncology Network, along with the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.”

Along with serving as a referral center, the clinic will partner with faculty across North America to offer a broad spectrum of treatment strategies. This partnership includes participating in clinical research trials with universities and hospital systems such as MD Anderson Cancer Center, Duke University and Case Western Reserve University.

The clinic can be accessed through any Beaumont hospital - Grosse Pointe, Royal Oak and Troy.
