Stroke Centers

Beaumont Stroke Specialists

Beaumont hospitals in Royal Oak, Troy and Grosse Pointe each have earned designation as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, the nation's predominant accrediting organization in health care.

Additionally, The Joint Commission has designated Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak with advanced certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, making Beaumont the second hospital in Michigan and first in Southeast Michigan to achieve this certification, which recognizes hospitals that have state-of-the-art infrastructure, staff and training to receive and treat patients with the most complex strokes.

After passing rigorous on-site reviews and examinations of patient care, Beaumont has been recognized as:

  • Providing high-quality medical care that follows national, evidence-based standards
  • Meeting the specialized needs of stroke patients
  • Making exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes

This designation is considered a "seal of approval" and recognizes the exceptional efforts of the Beaumont stroke care team at providing advanced care according to the latest stroke treatment standards.

Our certification affirms the success of our quality stroke care, which includes:

  • More interventional stroke specialists on staff than any other hospital in Michigan
  • Royal Oak as the only hospital in Oakland and Macomb counties with an emergency treatment team in the hospital 24/7 for complete interventional care for acute stroke and aneurysm patients any time day or night.
  • Dedicated intensive care beds for stroke patients
  • A dedicated neuroscience unit with 66 beds and nine monitored critical care beds
  • Specially trained and certified nursing staff
  • Interventional neurosurgeons and neuroradiologists who can administer intra-arterial t-PA and remove blood clots from the brain

Beaumont, Royal Oak, treats more stroke patients than any other hospital in the state of Michigan and works closely with Beaumont Troy and Grosse Pointe in care collaboration and appropriate patient transfers for surgical stroke interventions.

The neurovascular program manages all aspects of stroke and cerebrovascular disorders and coordinates subsequent therapeutic strategies including surgery, interventional neuroradiology, stereotactic radiosurgery, and rehabilitation.

The goal of the Beaumont stroke centers is to provide comprehensive, individualized care that will help our patients recover to achieve the best quality of life possible.
